Yuvvraj is a different kind of a movie like all directors, producers and actors claim at paid press conferences. What is different about this one is that it will test your ability to resist the urge to walk out of the cinema hall. This one is sure to piss you off no matter how poor your taste for movies is. Subhash Ghai has lost it completely.
A 40+ year old Salman Khan who is faking an accent which sounds as if Shoaib Akhtar is speaking Hindi fails miserably. He looks old enough to be Katrina's Uncle and his dressing is poor through out. I mean the clothes were good, but I don't know what went wrong. Oh yeah, we have Katrina as well. The plastic smile-no expressions-forget about acting-so called babe has broken her own record of looking convincingly dumb. Zayed Khan with his Purcupine-like hair style hams in one scene and sucks in others. Mithun Da is OK. Anil Kapoor is the only saving grace with a classy performance as usual. Another day at office for him.
The story is a condensed version of a 600 episode B-Grade soap with a vamp, a dirty mamaji, poisoning, property issues, jealousy, a few disgusting things and finally a dumb jingoistic climax. There is NO CLARITY in the story. Subhash Ghai has goofed up completely. A few questions that remain unanswered are:
- How did Boman Irani know Anil Kapoor likes playing that instrument which he plays in the climax. I don't think they ever met before (Well, if they did...I don't remember!)?
- Mamaji's second son is never shown after his introduction. What happened to him?
- Why is Salman wearing ear studs which make him look unmasculine?
- Why is Salman screwing up his image with a 1980s hairstyle and colored hair which don't suit him? His comedy is bad too....
- Why is Katrina so dumb?
- How can an Anil Kapoor with a pre-teenager's brain drink beer and play with a 8 year old at the same time. Nonsense.
There are only two reasons why one CAN watch the movie.
- The locales are superb (Austria).
- Anil Kapoor.
Otherwise, it is a pretty dumb movie with no essence. Simply avoid.
